Moving the Desktop in Windows 7 Feb 05

Hey,

I just realized that Windows 7 has an awesome feature – changing the location of the desktop.

With previous windows versions you had the possibility to “right-mouse-click” My Documents and then change the location to another hard drive. The same thing can now be done with the actual Desktop, so all files and folders saved on the desktop are saved onto another hard drive!

Use the Windows Explorer and navigate to: Computer – Local Disk (C:) – Users – “Your User Name” and there you will see the desktop folder. Right mouse click the desktop and chose properties, then in the menu click on the location tab and “move” it to another hard drive.

Why should you do this? Simple – You are using Windows! Windows tends to f$&^ up eventually and you need to format C and reinstall windows. IF/WHEN this happens, you won’t have to worry about any files on the desktop getting lost, as the actual location of the desktop is on another hard drive and a format C won’t delete them :)

The desktop is not all though, you can move pretty much everything to another hard drive, including the Pictures, Videos etc folders.
